Time for some more Genealogy Fun!!
Your mission, should you decide to accept it (cue the Mission Impossible! music) is to:
1) Taneya Koonce wrote a Happy Birthday post about her own life in Quick Tip: Create Your Personal History Timeline – The Birthday Edition 🥳. What great birthday idea.
2) This week, write your own Personal History Timeline – every 5 or 10 years, or the most important events. If you don’t want to do yours, write a History Timeline for one of your ancestors
Age Zero: No memories but photos; first born child of my parents
Age Five: Family has moved to Dodge City. March of that year, the area experienced a major blizzard. My mother was expecting.When the street was blocked by wrecked vehicles, my parents decided to go to my grandparents. According to my father, a neighbor helped carry myself and my brother across a vacant lot to my grandmother’s car while my dad carried my mother. Another neighbor carried luggage. While we were staying with my grandparents, the neighbors ran out of milk and cigarettes. My parents told them to ‘raid’ our house for those ‘essentials.’
Age ten: I was a fifth grader at a neighborhood school. A year later, I ‘graduated’ and was recognized as one of the students who had attended that school since the year it had opened.
Age 15: I graduated 9th grade from a junior high in Lincoln Nebraska. That summer, I had my first date with Steve Richards. We went to the movie, Sound of Music. A month after that date, I had moved to another state.
Age 20: I was a chemistry major at the Kansas State Teachers College. I attended an American Chemical Society conference in St. Louis.
Age 25: My husband and I celebrated our third wedding anniversary. My husband was teaching chemistry and physics at Nemaha Valley High School I was in my 3rd year on the NVHS staff where I taught biology. During the summer, I was attending graduate school, working on a degree in library science.
Age 30: I was in my second year as librarian at Nemaha Valley High School. My husband was still teaching chemistry and physics.
Age 35: While still the high school librarian, I had also acquired the role of technology coordinator. That summer, we put in network wiring.
Ages 45 and 55: I continued to work for the school district as librarian, technology coordinator and ‘any other job as assigned.’ My husband would continue teaching chemistry and physics. He would also assist me in my role as technolgoy coordinator by replacing parts on printers or other tasks involving hardware. I would sponsor several classes during this time, working with them as sophomores to begin raising money, juniors to host the prom and seniors to go on a senior trip and graduate.
Age 65: My husband and I had just finished our first year of retirement. Duing this year, we both resumed our respective genealogy research. I also started volunteering at the local historical society.
Age 70: My genealogy research had expanded to include sharing my research on this blog. I had also joined the hisorical society board.
