In John Crawford’s will, he directed his executors to partition the land giving half to John’s brother, William. In the following deed, James Crawford, executor of John Crawford’s estate fulfills the will by deed land to William Crawford.

This Indenture made this eleventh day of
June in the year One thousand Seven Hundred
and ninety seven Between James Crawford of
Botetourt County State of Virginia of the one
part and William Crawford of said County
of the other part Witnesseth that whereas John
Crawford the elder in his life time purchased the
tract of Land on which the said parties now
Live on the north side of Craig’s Creek which
contains Including the surplus , thereof one

Tract being granted to said Craig,, who conveyed
the same to said John Crawford Crawford the elder who
devised the same by his last will and Testament
to his Sons the said William Crawford Crawford & to his
son John Crawford Crawford now decd & the said John
Crawford Decd by his last will and Testament
Autherised his son the said James Crawford as
his Executor to divide said Land agreeable – – agreeable to the will of the said John Crawford Crawford
the elder and to confirm the title of the said
Williams, division or allotment of said Land
to him and his heirs from the Claimes of the
heirs of the said John decd – the said James
hath therefore agreeable to the last will and
Testament of his father John Crawford
Dec & in conformity to the last will
and Testament of his grand father John
Crawford the elder and by the Consent of the sd
William Crawford divided said tract of 190 acres of Land
and land of said William his division or allotment
in the following manner to wit , Beginning
at a walnut and double ash on the bank of
the Creek & running thence ( the division line ,
Crossing the bottom North east fifty two poles
Passing a white Oak & hickory at the foot
of the Hill to a Stake on the out Side linePage 315
on the side of the Hill thence with the out side
Lines North fifty two & one half degrees west ninety
eight poles to five pines & spanish oak south
seventy five west forty poles to a white Oak and
black Oak on the bank of the Creek at the mouth
of a Gulley where the old Corner stood thence down
the several courses of the creek three hundred &
thirty poles to the Beginning containing
ninety five acres of Land to have and to hold said
allotment of 95 Acres agreeable to the above bound – – ries Together with all the appurtenances thereunto
belonging to the said William Crawford Crawford & his
heirs forever and the said James Crawford Crawford for him
self & his heirs [fr] relinquishes all his & their title
and claim to said allotment of Land to the said
William and his heirs and shall and will forever
Warrant & Defend the title of the same to the said
William Crawford his heirs or assigns from the
claim or claims of themselves or the heirs of
the said John Crawford decd in Testimony
whereof the said James Crawford hath hereunto
Set his hand and seal the day and year above
